Madam,

Re your article Cash-strapped council spends £1,400 on coffee machine, I would like to suggest to Dolgellau county councillor Dyfrig Siencyn that ’basic refreshments’ do not, in the opinion of the vast majority of people, constitute expensive self-indulgent machines to impress visitors and those who have travelled for long distances.

Most of us would make do with drinks from an ordinary vending machine paid out of our own pockets as we do when visiting hospitals, for example.

Perhaps he would include in his category of those eligible to use this publicly funded coffee machine those of us who have driven miles to find a public toilet, or can we use the facilities at Penarlag?

That is assuming that the council plans to close these vital toilet facilities are still going ahead!
