Madam,
Last week’s issue of the Cambrian News showed pictures and reports on the opening of Penparcau Community Forum Ltd’s extension to the Boxing Club. An impressive new extension built for social purposes thanks to Bryn Jones, the forum’s co-ordinator, having had the expertise to secure nearly £500,000 grant funding from the Welsh Assembly.
The Aberystwyth town mayor, Assembly members and Ellen ap Gwynn, leader of Ceredigion County Council, were pictured at the opening ceremony which took place only yards away from Bodlondeb Residential Home which is due to be closed in just over three months’ time by the council.
As our elderly and infirm are the most vulnerable in our society the question has to be asked: If the forum co-ordinator has the ability to secure such massive funding why did our AMs, county councillors and officials not have the same adroitness and persuasion to obtain necessary funding to retain full services and refurbishment for Bodlondeb Residential Home? Where, when demand increases for residential care and domicilliary is no longer sufficient for their needs, will these patients end up?
Yours etc, Name and address supplied.
