I write in response to your article ‘Campaign to save field after goalposts removed’ in the 31March edition of the Cambrian News.

Ceredigion County Council’s response to this unnecessary removal of the goalposts is totally unacceptable.

The tragic accident in Caersws that the council use in their explanation, happened in 2011 so it’s surprising that it’s now, 10 years later that they decide to remove the posts (posts that form a big part of the supporting evidence to the Village Green Status application as well as supporting the local objections to the proposed planning application for 77 houses on this green space).

The council stated in the article that goalposts were historically removed from the Erw Goch field and that the current ones were erected without the required licence. However, according to local residents, these goalposts have been in place in this field for over 20 years. In fact, photos have emerged of these posts being used in this location as far back as 1972.

It is no coincidence that it’s now that Ceredigion County Council decides to remove these goalposts - at a time when the Erw Goch field is involved in both a planning and a Village Green Status application.
