Madam,

I’ve heard it all now! I read an article in last week’s Cambrian News of a campaign to reopen tourist information centres next year.

Everyone knew about these imminent closures prior to the loss of the service. Therefore, could I enquire whether the councillors involved with this current campaign actually made their representations to Gwynedd Council at the time? Why wasn’t this campaign organised then? And why has Barmouth Town Council decided to have talks on whether the service can be brought back into operation at this late stage?

If Barmouth Town Council can maintain independence of the running of the tourist information centre, I seriously hope that the staff running it will be in paid employment for positions which were, and still are, giving a valuable and vital service to the public.

Yours etc,

O Jean Thomas, Llanfair.
