A GRIEVING widow is calling for action to be taken to prevent further tragedies after her husband was killed in an accident involving an inflatable boat in Malta.

Allan Stanley from Ceidio, near Nefyn, suffered fatal injuries to his head when he was hit by the propeller of a rigid inflatable boat (RIB) while he was snorkelling at Hondoq ir-Rummien Bay in Qala, Gozo on Sunday, 19 June.

The 76-year-old was on holiday with his wife, Diane, 69, who told the Cambrian News after an inquest was held in Caernarfon that she would be returning to Malta this month and wanted someone to be held accountable for her husband’s death.

Mrs Stanley, who ran Lavender House (formerly Period Pine) in Penrhos, near Pwllheli, with her husband, said: “What happened to Allan could have happened to anyone, there needs to be better safety procedures in place where people swim in the bay, it could have easily been a child that day.

“We have come to a standstill with the investigation into what happened.

“It could take years, which is very frustrating but I believe someone should be held accountable.

“But for me I would prefer to see something happen there that will stop something like this ever happening again.

“Allan was my whole world, since I lost him everything has stopped for me.

“We had been going out to Malta for years and this was our first year of semi-retirement out there.

“All I hope for now is that something changes there following his death and that no one else has to go through what I have.”
