Madam,
With Aberystwyth’s Tesco store scheduled to open on 24 November, I’m waiting with baited breath to see the effect the store, and its own automatic traffic signals in Park Avenue, will have on the town’s traffic flow.
I sincerely hope that it doesn’t mirror the sheer chaos that resulted from Tesco’s traffic signals in Newtown, when heavy, but flowing traffic suddenly seemed to grind to a virtual standstill which was clearly caused by the traffic backing up from these, seemingly, out-of-phase signals.
Sadly, Newtown never seems to have recovered!

Aber indie press founder becomes the oldest-ever nominee for UK Trailblazer awardAnd now, to add to the fun, unless I am greatly mistaken, the road and site adjustments at the Park Avenue and Mill Street roundabout have resulted in a narrowing of the entrance to the junction from Park Avenue making it extremely difficult for traffic to filter left into Mill Street and away from the Tesco area and the town centre.
But never mind, perhaps one day we will get a bypass too and, whilst Aberystwyth might die, we will still have a Tesco.
Yours etc,
Barrie Lynn, Trisant, Aberystwyth.
