Opponents of a wind farm near Caersws are set to hold a public meeting to discuss it later month.

Renewable energy developers wind2 are in the early stages of putting together plans for 11 wind turbines at a site 2.7 kilometres to the north of Clatter.

The energy park which will go by the name of Calon-y-Gwynt (Heart of Wind) will have 10 turbines that are 200 metres high and one of 180 meters.

In June, wind2 held a series of public exhibitions to explain the proposal and a pre-application consultation is currently taking place and is set to end on September 21.

A focus group against the proposal has already met to put together detailed objections to the proposals.

A spokesman said: “The turbines are in close proximity to Llyn Mawr SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and completely surround the Garreg Hir Trig point, obscuring views of our treasured landscapes.”

They public meeting will be held at Clatter Community Centre on Wednesday, August 26 at 6.30pm, and will also be attended by anti-wind farm pressure group Re-Think.

Wind 2 said: “The purpose of PAC is to provide communities and consultees with an opportunity to understand the proposals, review the draft application documents and provide comments before the application is finalised.

“This is an important stage in the planning process.

“It enables us to explain the project, identify any issues or concerns that may not already have been considered, and, where appropriate, make changes to the proposals before they are submitted.”

Following the pre-application consultation phase, it is expected that a formal DNS application will be submitted to PEDW – the deadline for this submission is December 14.

As the proposal is classed as a Development of National Significance (DNS) Welsh Government planning inspectors at PEDW will process the application.

This means that Powys County Council is a consultee rather than decision makers.
