GWYNEDD Council has been slammed over the state of Barmouth’s promenade after a woman was badly injured in a fall.
Janet Hamilton, 65, suffered cuts, a black eye and headaches after tumbling on the promenade last Monday.
Her son Michael, 30, who administered first aid, said the promenade is in the “worst state it’s ever been in” and fears other elderly or vulnerable people are at risk.
He described the promenade as being covered at “one end in three to four feet of sand” and the remainder covered with trip hazards.
“I want to shine a spotlight on the appalling state of Barmouth Promenade,” the outraged resident told the Cambrian News.
“I am a local resident and can attest to this being the worst state the promenade has ever been in.
“One end is covered in three to four feet of sand and the rest with rocks, pebbles and poo.
“The dog poo is a result of all the bins being removed and those that remain not being emptied. The sand and pebbles are a result of lack of maintenance but means that the Barmouth quayside is inaccessible to anyone with low mobility or wheelchair users.
“I have observed many falls because of this including today where my mother has cut open the side of her face and has caused quite a bit of damage by tripping on stones."
