A community project is celebrating the re-opening of a popular woodland walk after a new bridge was installed.

The footbridge at Pentre Gwynfryn, near Llanbedr, was damaged beyond repair following storms last year which split a tree in two and fell onto the bridge which crossed the River Artro.

The bridge is part of a popular circular walk from Llanbedr to Pentre Gwynfryn.

Llanbedr Community Council, local county councillor Annwen Hughes, with the support of Liz Haynes in Gwynedd Council, pooled their resources to reinstate the popular bridge, which was installed last month.

On Friday, members of the community joined together to mark the formal opening of the bridge by Cllr Annwen Hughes.

The bridge is just the start for a new Llanbedr Woodlands and Paths project according to Llanbedr community councillor Caroline Evans.

She said: “With such an opportunity to promote the village as a recreational nature hub - a destination, offering a network of paths. Llanbedr Community Council, as initiator of the Llanbedr Woodlands and Paths project, view it a priority to inform and encourage residents and tourists alike to come and experience the woodlands within the village and the diverse biosphere on the doorstep.

“That is why a Woodlands and Paths sub-committee was formed consisting of Iolyn Jones, Gruffydd Price and myself (Caroline Evans)."
