THE NATIONAL Library of Wales in Aberystwyth has launched a school competition to recreate the iconic building using a popular computer game.
The Minecraft competition, part of the National Library of Wales’ Digital Build Challenge, will see school-children compete to recreate the building “as accurately as possible”.
The Minecraft game, played by millions worldwide and the third biggest seeling video game of all time, allows players to build constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D environment.
Using a licensed copy of Minecraft, Ceredigion school-children can enter the competition to win prizes using the game’s Digital Build Challenge pack to re-create The National Library of Wales building.
Entrants will have to make a video of their Minecraft building or take many pictures or screenshots of it.
A panel of staff from The National Library of Wales will judge the competition.
The judges will score each submission out of 100.
Eighty per cent of the score will focus on the outside of the building, and judges said that the age of the contestant will be taken into account when judging.
Prizes will be awarded to the best three submissions, with first prize scooping £50, second taking home £30 and third place awarded £20.
The closing date for entries is 1 July.
