AFTER last week’s victory over Talybont, Commoners maintained winning ways by beating Aberystwyth by four wickets in their latest outing in the Girasol Homes West Wales Cricket Conference.

Arshad Sher claimed 4 wickets for 18 runs in his eight overs, and Anish Kuriakose took 3 for 23 from 8.3 overs, including three maidens, as Commoners reduced Aber from 110 for 2 to 132 all out.

Sher also ran out Zaid Khan for 44 and denied Anthony Burrell a half-century, who he bowled on 49, before contributing 30 valuable runs for the Commoners in their winning reply of 132 for 6.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Aber skipper Burrell and Zaid Khan had put on 60 runs for the first wicket, with youngster Khan hitting 3 fours and 3 sixes, before he was ultimately run out.Mel Jones then came in at number three and played his part a 50-run partnership with Burrell, before he was caught by Ravi Mander, from the bowling of Guy Baron for 17, which included a boundary.

Burrell was heading for a half century, having struck 4 fours and a six - but when he was bowled for 49, Sher and Kuriakose ensured Aber were all out for 132, with Rakesh Bhatia also claiming a wicket.

In reply, David Wilcockson was caught for nought by junior Titus Mathew, from bowler Nat Burrell, and fellow opener Bill Somerfield was trapped lbw by Emlyn Mainwaring for 11 to make it 32 for 2.

Number three Ravi Mander made 21, with 2 fours, before he was caught by Zaid Khan, from bowler Ted Trewella, and Nigel Salmon removed Rakesh Bhatia for 13, including a four and six.

Salmon (2 for 42 from 8 overs) also had Kuriakose caught by Nat Burrell for 1, but Sher and Guy Baron revived the innings by adding 40 for the sixth wicket.

Sher had made 30, including five boundaries, when he was bowled by Nat Burrell (2 for 23 from 9 overs, with 3 maidens), but Commoners got over the line on 133 for 6 in the 33rd over, with Baron finishing on 32 not out, including 5 boundaries.
