PENRHYNDEUDRAETH boosted their Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division one title ambitions as they moved to within four points of front-runners Glantraeth with a 5-1 win over St Asaph City.

The Maes-y-Parc hosts took control of the game by scoring three goals mid-way through the first half.

The opening goal came from a breakaway in the seventh minute, as Neil Thomas confidently rounded the keeper to steer the ball home from 12 yards.

Iwan Thomas doubled the lead on 19 minutes, with a six yard finish, after Alan Jones’ free-kick from the right, and Tom Smith produced the next goal on 26, when he drove the ball low into the corner of the goal.

Other chances fell to Neil Thomas and Smith, but they failed to convert and it remained 3-0 at the interval.

The second half exchanges were subdued until the 74th minute, when St Asaph’s Jake Walker found the net.

Allan Jones, however, netted goal number four on 76 minutes and Smith completed the nap-hand on 78, as Penrhyn sealed their 10th league win of the season.

Pwllheli and Barmouth and Dyffryn United both found themselves with an unwanted day off, as their games were postponed due to waterlogged grounds.

League leaders Glantraeth probably wished they had not played, as they were on the receiving end of a 1-0 defeat against Greenfield, with Liam Robinson scoring the only goal on 38 minutes.

Trearddur Bay Unitedclosed up with a 2-0 win over Llanrwst United at their Gwydyr Park ground after late goals by Asa Thomas on 80 and 88 minutes.

Llangefni Town were 2-0 winners over Llandyrnog United, with netted goals by James Saxon on 42 minutes and Craig Roberts on 64.

Llandudno Junction were the most convincing performers, piling up a 6-1 tally at Nantlle Vale’s expense.

Joel Hewitt scored twice for Junction, on 25 and 90 minutes, and the other goals were spread between Niall Owen on 35, Aaron Boyle on 38, Lee Ellis on 39 and Brian Roberts on 88, with the visitors’ Matthew Davies replying on 45 minutes.

DIVISION TWO ROUND-UP

Division Two leaders Melinden had to settle for a 3-3 draw at home to Gaerwen, with Dan Williams salvaging a point with his equaliser after 85 minutes.

Ben Davies had opened the scoring after just 10 minutes, but Chris Bennett on 21 and a James Burgess penalty on 25 earned the visitors the lead, before Matthew Griffiths levelled the scores with a penalty on 30.

Dion Jones looked like he had netted a winner, but then Williams levelled with just five minutes to spare.

Mochdre Sports closed the gap to three points, with four games in hand on the leaders, as Dan Miller’s winner on 75 minutes sealed a 1-0 win against Pentraeth.

Penmaenmawr Phoenix triumphed 2-0 at Cemaes Bay, courtesy of goals from Zyron Davies on 45 minutes and Alfie Caldecott on 85.

Prestatyn Sports notched an emphatic 8-1 win at Llanllyfni, whose consolation was scored by Callum Everton after 48 minutes.

Paul Watts netted on 9 and 51, James Middleton on 35, Rob Dunn on 55 and 78, Dan Green on 70, Mike Jones on 75 and Sam MacDougall on 88 to seal a one-sided win.

Mynydd Llandegai beat Llanfairpwll 3-2 with goals from Liam Owen on 1 minute, Ben Owen on 38 and Alwyn Roberts on 55.

Liam Morris replied on 65 and Shaun Morris after 90.
