THERE was another twist in the race for the Spar Mid Wales League division one title as leaders Knighton had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Carno at Ty Brith
Penrhyncoch meanwhile took their chance to close the gap at the top to five points, with two games in hand, by beating Llanidloes Town 3-0 at Victoria Avenue.
Carno started brightly against the league leaders, with a 3-5-2 formation, and Andrew Evans headed straight at the keeper, before Gregg Brown saw his shot tipped onto the post.
It was Knighton, however, who opened the scoring when the ball was swung in and their defender headed the ball in off the left hand post.
Ash Owen sliced a shot wide as Carno looked to to level, and the equaliser came just after the half hour when Ioan Humphreys crossed in for Andrew Evans to run on and tap home from close range.
The second half was closely-fought with Carno’s Ioan Humphreys firing narrowly wide from 12 yards, whilst at the other end Chris Brown was hardly tested.
In a tight affair, Carno substitute Jordan Jones saw his curling shot go just over in the dying minutes, but both sides had to settle for a point in the end.
Second-placed Penrhyncoch meanwhile stepped up the pressure on the leaders with a 3-0 win at Llanidloes Town at Victoria Avenue.
After a cagey start to the match, Penrhyn opened the scoring after half an hour when Matt Mousley supplied a great cross from deep and Owain James headed powerfully home.
Just before the half-time interval, Josh Shaw’s strike was saved, but the ball went in off a defender to double Penrhyncoch’s advantage.
The points were secured on 56 minutes when Harri Clarke handled the ball in the area, and Mark Gornall coolly converted from the spot.
Bow Street meanwhile notched up an emphatic 7-2 win over Machynlleth, with Osian Burrell, Andrew Gittens, Neil Evans, Nicky Smith, Steffan Richards, Lee Jones and Guto Havard all scoring.
Aberaeron meanwhile hit back from being two goals down at the interval to beat Tywyn/Bryncug 3-2, with second half goals from Gareth Severs, Dan James and Owen Gawthorpe.
In division two, a Rian Devlin goal earned Aberystwyth University a 1-1 draw with Bont, who scored through Trevor Jenkins.
Goals from Rob Pritchard and Richard Davies, with a brace, earned newly-crowned division two champions Berriew a 3-2 win over Kerry, who scored twice through Luke Mumford.
Elsewhere Builth Wells lost 3-1 at home to Radnor Valley, whilst Dyffryn Banw beat Bettws 2-0.
