CARING staff from Porthmadog’s Tax Office have completed a 10-kilometre sponsored challenge to raise money for facilities at a children’s hospital.

The physical endeavour has raised money which will be put towards responsoring a room in Ronald McDonald House, named after an 20-month-old baby who tragically lost his life in 2012.

Bethan Evans, who lives in Nefyn, is raising money to remember her son Efan who died after he was born with a rare lung disease called Surfactant deficiency protein-C.

Efan’s condition meant his lungs never fully developed, causing him serious respiratory issues.

During his treatment, Bethan recalls that the state-of-the-art facilities provided by Ronald McDonald House at Manchester Hospital made a very distressing period slightly more bearable and hopes to provide similar accommodation for families suffering similar woes.

Bethan is subsequently participating in the Great Manchester Run soon, along with several friends, to raise money to donate to the children’s charity.

Bethan’s brother, and Efan’s uncle, Richard has also done his bit to raise funds, with the help and support of his colleagues.

Richard, who is wheelchair bound, travelled from Barmouth to Penmaenpool with his coworkers from the HMRC offices last weekend in an attempt to top up Efan’s Fund, raising money and awareness.

“As a family are very touched that family, friends and local communities have helped out with fund-raising and want to thank everyone,” Bethan said.

The family had hoped to raise £5,000 to responsor the room but have already smashed this target by nearly £2,000.
