A 12-hour fundraising event has been organised in support of a new skate park for Tywyn.

The event started at 12pm today.

It will be held at Talyllyn Field in Abergynolwyn, and will finish at midnight.

Ellis Melia organised the event and is looking forward to getting the community involved to raise money for the important cause.

He said: “The 12-hour fundraiser for the skate park will include lots of things to do.

“This includes a DJ, live bands, food stalls, a licensed bar and a cocktail bar.

“I haven’t got a target for the fundraiser but the park will cost £250,000 so the more we raise the better.”

Ellis believes the park is important to Tywyn and the wider area as a meeting point and a place for children to go with friends.

He added: “The skate park is so important to the local area.

“I used it as a kid and all my friends would meet there.

“It is a place for people to go and it’s important for children in the area to have somewhere to go.

“Tickets will be sold on the day so people can turn up and they will be able to get in.”

If you would like to attend the event, you can buy a ticket by searching ‘Tywyn skate park fundraising event’ at www.theticketsellers.co.uk.

Francesca Pridding is part of the fundraising team.

She said: “This is the final push to complete our fundraising.

“We have around £244,000 in the bank out of the £250,000 we need.

“Earlier in the year the town council, as trustees of the Cambrian Road Recreation Ground agreed to making the profits we get from the pay and display machine by the Talyllyn Railway work for the benefit of the town, and took a loan for the funding required so that work could start as soon as possible.

“This event demonstrates how important it is to the young people to have this facility.

“Ellis has driven the whole thing and really needs to be congratulated for his enterprising efforts.

Francesca added: “People need to know that if it’s not their cup of tea or if they can’t attend, they can support the effort through the fundraising page.”
