A self-confessed ‘petrol head’ from Machynlleth is organising a car run of more than 100 vehicles for charity.

Jason McAuley, managing director of vehicle tracking firm Plant i, plans to raise money for Wales Air Ambulance.

At Mach Run, which takes place this Saturday, 29 September, over 100 cars will take to the roads, and Jason hopes the event will raise thousands of pounds for the worthwhile cause.

Explaining why he wanted to organise the run, Jason said: “I’m so busy with work that I wanted to do something outside of it. I’m a big petrol head – I love my cars – so I thought I would organise a car run locally.

“I took part in one in the Elan Valley and that’s where I got the idea from, and Wales Air Ambulance is such a good cause that I thought it would be good to raise money for them.”

So far 130 cars have been signed up for the 50-mile drive, raising £2,700.

“I know more people are hoping to take part on the day, and there will be T-shirts and raffle tickets, so hopefully we’ll get closer to the £4,000 mark,” Jason said.

The cars will assemble at Plant i’s car park and people will have two hours to view the vehicles.

“There will be a range of cars, from Ferraris and Audis to Minis and Land Rovers,” said Jason, “and from 9am to 11am people will be able to view the cars. There will also be live music and a burger van.

“Then, at 11am, a convoy of cars will take part in a slow, controlled run up to Dinas Mawddwy, through the Mach Loop, Talyllyn Pass, Tywyn, Aberdyfi, Pennal and back.”
