The owners of a dog-friendly business in Pwllheli have travelled to Romania to help cats and dogs facing a tough winter there.

Georgina Jones and her husband Dafyn, of Lavender House, have been busy collecting donations, both physical and financial, from across north Wales which were driven to Romania on Saturday, 12 October.

The couple, along with family and friends, collected the items, which include blankets and food, to be delivered to the Teddy Alex Shelter for cats and dogs.

Despite owner Alexandra Sarau’s “best efforts”, the Teddy Alex Shelter is struggling to stay afloat. It recently moved 70km away from Bucharest to Constanta, and the animals face a “cruel winter” in their new rural location.

Georgina has expressed concerns over the welfare of the 190 dogs and 40 cats at the shelter over the winter months, as temperatures can drop below minus 15°C.

Lavender House put a Facebook post out on 27 September appealing for members of the community for donations and received a “huge response”, with people bringing in food, dog coats, collars, blankets, duvets, towels and fleeces to line freezing kennels.

Lavender House then embarked on a gruelling 31-hour journey to deliver the donations and to support “Alexandra’s dream to save more lives from misery”.

Georgina hopes to be able to donate more items in the future and would like to encourage people to donate to the cause.
