Around 500 children marched in Aberystwyth on Friday to protest about climate change and the threat it poses to their future.
The students from Aberystwyth, Machynlleth, Llanidloes and the surrounding area with placards and megaphones to send a clear message to the town council and Welsh Government: acknowledge the climate and biodiversity emergency that threatens our future survival, and urgently take action to prevent it.
“With a 97 per cent consensus among scientists that climate change is caused by humans, and the recent hottest day in February on record, the credibility of climate change deniers is dwindling by the day,” a spokesperson for the protesters said.
“The governments of the world have consistently failed to take adequate steps to hit global warming targets of 1.5 to 2°C and, according to World Economic Forum’s 2018 Global Risk assessment, extreme weather events are the greatest risk to the future of humanity.”
The protest was organised by college and school students from Aberystwyth, who were supported by students from Aberystwyth University.
