AN Aberystwyth man has been jailed for over six years after pleading guilty to possession of heroin with intent to supply.

Gary Norman Bagnall, 49, was sentenced to six years and five months’ imprisonment at Swansea Crown Court on Monday, 17 February.

Bagnall was arrested on a train on October 17, 2019, while travelling back to Aberystwyth from the West Bromwich area.

Following his arrest, he unleashed a torrent of abuse towards two officers in front of other passengers, and spat at one of the officers.

On 19 October, Bagnall agreed to an x-ray and CT scan which proved clear.

However officers detected a strong smell of excrement near the door of the consultation room, and discovered a plastic bag that had been partially pushed down between two seats.

The package was examined and found to contain heroin weighing 3.29g.

A search of Bagnall’s home was conducted and alongside various drug paraphernalia a foil wrap was discovered, which tested positive for heroin residue.

Assessment of his mobile phone records showed between 1 August and 17 October, Bagnall made 26 journeys to either the Welshpool, Wrexham or Smethwick areas, all with the intention of sourcing Class A drugs which were then transported to Aberystwyth for onward distribution.

PC Samuel Garside said: "Tackling the issue of drugs supply in our communities is a priority for Ceredigion Police.

“I hope this will serve as a warning to others who wish to bring drugs into the Ceredigion area that it will not be tolerated.

“This result will go a long way towards keeping our communities safe.

“Anyone who is concerned about drug use or drug dealing in their area, contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
