Machynlleth is being left without vital ambulance cover, even at the time of Prince Charles’ visit, because crews are being used in other areas, the town’s mayor has said.

Monica Atkins has previously raised her fears that Machynlleth is being left without adequate ambulance service cover, with crews instead being diverted to other areas.

She said that was the case during the recent royal visit to Machynlleth by Prince Charles on Friday, 5 July.

Cllr Atkins said she had been informed that there was no ambulance cover in Machynlleth on the day as crews were instead covering in other areas.

She said she had also been told that a Machynlleth resident had been left to wait two hours before receiving an ambulance response.

Cllr Atkins said: “I’m very concerned about the ambulance cover.

“We had the visit of the His Royal Highness and there was no ambulance cover in Machynlleth at all as the ambulance was in Newtown.”

“The managers need to get a big grip on things. It’s definitely a management issue.

“The paramedics are angels, but they can’t do their job at the moment. It’s worse than it’s ever been.”
