ABERYSTWYTH firefighters will now have a much better chance of saving people’s pets from fires after a charity donated oxygen therapy masks designed for use on animals.
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service announced that Aberystwyth will be one of thirteen stations across the service area, which covers almost two-thirds of Wales, to be issued with oxygen administration equipment for cats and dogs suffering with breathing difficulties.
The equipment has been kindly donated by the Smokey Paws charity and was presented to the fire service at Llanelli Fire Station on Thursday, 2 June.
Sean Lloyd, technical services station manager at MAWWFRS, said: “We would like to thank all the individuals and organisations who have donated and fundraised on behalf of Smokey Paws.
“The donation of Oxygen Therapy Masks will improve our capability to recover cats and dogs from fires in a way we haven’t been able to do before.”
The other stations which have received the equipment are Llanwrtyd Wells, Builth Wells, Llandrindod Wells, Carmarthen, Newcastle Emlyn, Whitland, Llanelli, Swansea Central, Swansea West, Morriston, Port Talbot and Haverfordwest.
