Armed police took to the streets of Aberaeron on Monday night following a potential sighting of a suspected murderer.

Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that the operation was linked to the search for Steven Baxter, who is wanted on suspicion of the murder of Simon Clark in Pendine on Thursday, 27 September.

“A potential sighting of the suspect was reported in Aberaeron, which officers responded to,” said a spokesperson. “No arrests were made.”  

Officers say that Baxter – also known as Steve Rowley, Wayne Tidy and William Tidy - is aged 52, 5’5” (1.65cm) tall and has tattoos on his forearms - the name Chez and entwined circles on his left arm and a serpent on his right arm.

He has connections in west Wales, south Wales, the south-west and north England.

Anyone with information about Baxter’s whereabouts is urged to contact Dyfed-Powys Police on 999.

Last Friday armed police evacuated Swansea train station and placed it on lockdown following information they had received which told them that Baxter was due to arrive on an incoming train.
