POLICE have made an arrest after a man claimed he had a large part of his ear bitten off in an Aberystwyth pub on Hallowe’en night.

Gwynant Jones (pictured with his injuries), 26, from Machynlleth said he was attacked out of the blue in the Academy pub on Saturday, 31 October.

Police later released a CCTV picture of a man they wanted to speak to who was dressed in an orange poncho and black wig.

On Monday, police confirmed that a 24-year-old man has been arrested by officers on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and has been bailed pending further police enquiries.

Last week Mr Jones said in an interview with the BBC: “I was in a pub, the Academy in Aberystwyth, and the next thing you know, I’m being pulled back by my ear.

“I didn’t know at the time but the guy had got me by the ear, he was biting me and pulling me down.

“Afterwards it went a bit blurry, I wasn’t sure what was going on.

“I went to the back room and found out he had bitten part of my ear off.

“I went to Bronglais A&E first and spoke to the doctor who told me they weren’t able to stitch it back on because it’s not the easiest place to stitch back on.

“Then they said we will have to send you down to Morriston [Hospital, Swansea].

“I was there until Sunday night, and had an operation to clean it and get rid of dead cells and skin which could get infected.

“There is an operation for reconstruction which is obviously going to have to be when it has healed up properly.”

Police have reissued an appeal for information.
