Discussions will be held over safety on a popular Gwynedd beach, after four people were hurt in a collision involving a pedestrian over the weekend.
Emergency services were called to Black Rock Sands on Saturday evening following a collision on the beach – with one person having to be airlifted to hospital.
North Wales Police confirmed on Saturday that they were dealing with a “serious road traffic collision” in the Black Rocks Sands area of Porthmadog.
“The event is being managed by local officers and Welsh Ambulance Service. We are appealing to the public to refrain from approaching the area to allow the officers and medics to deal with the task in hand,” they said on social media.
The cause of the collision is unknown, and no update has been given by North Wales Police.
The local county councillor told the Cambrian News he will be holding a meeting with officials to discuss the matter next week.
Cllr Selwyn Griffiths, who represents Porthmadog West, said: “It is disappointing that this happened on the beach.
“I am very concerned that this happened on a day when there were so many people at the beach. This summer we will have more people on the beach than ever.
“The people concerned are from Gwynedd, no one can say they are visitors.
“The matter needs to be looked at seriously. I have a meeting with beach officials next week.”
Local residents have also expressed concerns after the incident.
One concerned village resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “The accident on Saturday didn’t surprise us at all, we’ve been waiting for something to happen and one day there will be a tragedy down there.
She added that she believed cars shouldn’t be allowed to drive up and down during the day when there are families with small children.
Air and land ambulances were sent to the scene of Saturday’s collision.
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to the Morfa Bychan area at 6.04pm on Saturday, 29 May, to reports of a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian. We sent a rapid response vehicle, three emergency ambulances, the Wales Air Ambulance plus an urgent care doctor. Four patients were conveyed to Ysbyty Gwynedd for further treatment, three by road and one by air.”
A Wales Air Ambulance spokesperson added: “I can confirm that our Caernarfon and Welshpool aircraft attended the incident at Black Rock Sands.
“Following treatment, we airlifted one patient to Ysbyty Gwynedd, leaving the scene at 7pm and arriving at the hospital at 7.08pm.”
