AN EGLWYSFACH man is “ashamed and sorry” for assaulting his girlfriend following an argument.
Dean Martin Davies, 26, pleaded guilty to assaulting Maihanna Murphy on 7 July after he pushed her to the floor after a row.
Prosecutor Rhian Jones said the couple had been together for around seven months and had been out in Aberystwyth before Ms Murphy returned home and was woken at 3.50am by Davies banging on the door.
They started arguing after Davies said he had slept with someone else and he started packing a bag to leave before Ms Murphy threw it down the stairs and demanded that he leave.
He pushed Ms Murphy and she pushed him back, before Davies grabbed her by the shoulders and she fell to the floor.
Defence solicitor Alan Lewis told magistrates Davies was sorry for what happened and said he had been seeking help to address issues with alcohol and anger management.
Mr Lewis said: “He is deeply and genuinely remorseful. They have been in a relationship for seven months and he is very close to her.
“He acknowledges he has difficulties with alcohol and anger management and has been seeing a therapist once a week.
“On the night in question he had been on a drinking binge. They had an argument, she threw his bag down the stairs, he was on the way out, there was some pushing and she was pushed to the floor.
“He is gutted he committed this offence and feels ashamed and sorry. The last thing he wanted to happen was this incident.
“He has not had a drink since this happened.”
Magistrates fined Davies £250 and ordered him to pay costs totalling £115.
