FIREFIGHTERS from Cardigan and Lampeter have received top awards.

Crew manager Dylan Evans received the Chief Fire Officer’s Exceptional Achievement Award at the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s Celebrating Success awards ceremony hosted by BBC News presenter Sian Lloyd at Swansea’s Brangwyn Hall last week.

The audience were told that whilst attending an incident in July 2016, Mr Evans was confronted by an individual who was threatening to self-harm.

The citation continued: “Dylan offered to assist Dyfed-Powys Police in their negotiations and has been commended for the key role he played in bringing the incident to a safe conclusion.

“This was undoubtedly an extremely challenging incident for all blue light services who attended the scene, and Crew Manager Evans’ professionalism and presence of mind played a central role in the successful outcome of this incident.”

Lampeter watch manager Tim Dicker - who was said to have provided a dedicated service to the community for over 30 years – received The Lifetime Achievement Award.

“He has willingly contributed to the co-responder scheme and has forged excellent links with the ambulance staff who support the station,” read the citation.

“Tim has also contributed greatly to the many projects the service has introduced, providing valuable feedback and ideas to shape the initiatives."
