Revellers on Aberystwyth pier had to be evacuated in the early hours of Sunday morning when a fire alarm went off.
The police and fire brigade attended the scene to find a large crowd of people who had been evacuated from Pier Pressure, the Brasserie and Inn on The Pier, on the street outside the venues.
Erica Jones, who used to live in Aberystwyth, had returned to the town for a weekend with friends.
They had been enjoying the evening when the alarm was raised at about 1am.
Speaking to the Cambrian News, she said: “We were in Pier Brasserie and were quite surprised that no one reacted when it went off. We were sat by the dance floor and the DJ played at least one more song, possibly two, before anyone else seemed to even notice the alarm going off.
“Once they did react staff were pretty good at getting the place evacuated and coped very well with angry drunk people complaining about having to leave drinks.
“It was quite chaotic outside with lots of people annoyed they’d only just gone into Pier Pressure and weren’t being given a refund. "Eventually the police just told them the pier is closed and to go away. That was when Pier Street started to fill up as the crowd tried to find somewhere to end the night.”
She went on: “Talking to people who had been in Pier Pressure they said there were sparks in the DJ booth, but I obviously wasn’t in there so don’t know how true that is.
“I also noticed on Twitter someone going OTT saying there was an explosion in the snooker hall, but I find that hard to believe.”
