A CONMAN who embarked on ”a crime spree” has been jailed following a spate of thefts and motor offences across Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Powys.

Baron Rostas was said to have targeted businesses in west Wales after travelling down from his home in Rotherham.

He made thousands of pounds in a money-changing scam which, the court heard, was eventually recovered by Dyfed-Powys Police when he was arrested.

At least eight small or independent Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire businesses reported being targeted in the spate of thefts, which led to officers stopping the car Rostas was travelling in.

Rostas was arrested in Tenby on Friday, 18 November, and placed in custody at Haverfordwest.

He appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates the following Tuesday, charged with six counts of theft and two motor offences.

Romanian Rostas, aged 31, pleaded guilty and was handed a 40-week jail sentence.

Inspector Aled Davies said: “We are very pleased with the sentence handed out to Rostas.

“It was obvious that he was intent on committing crimes and offences during his travels and I am pleased to say that the crime spree came to an abrupt halt in Pembrokeshire.

“Travelling criminals such as him are greedy, dishonest and do not care who they target. Their sole purpose in committing such crimes is to steal money for their own personal benefit.
