CONCERNS have been raised over underage drinking and drug use at a Pwllheli car park after a syringe and needle were discovered.

Cllr Jonathan Roberts, of Pwllheli Town Council, has raised his concerns following an incident in Penlan car park during half-term and has asked for police to patrol the area.

The councillor has also expressed his concerns over the amount of empty cans being left dumped in the area.

He said: “During the half-term holiday in February, a number of young people gathered at the toilets in the car park.

“Usually there is one on the look out to warn the rest that someone is coming closer to the group.

“On one occasion, around noon on a Friday of the holiday week, I saw a girl around the age of 14 years old drunk in the gents toilet and a young boy, around 16 years old, also drunk in the door of the toilets with a bottle of Strongbow cider three-quarters empty.

“A little while later I went back and saw a needle and syringe on the floor, which were then taken away by the police."

“I would like to ask the police to keep a closer eye on the car park, especially during the school and college holidays.”

North Wales Police says the Penlan car park features as part of its patrol plans.

A Gwynedd Council spokesperson said: “Council staff have found one hypodermic needle in the public toilets in recent months, and it was disposed of immediately.”
