A DRUG dealer who was found to have more than £1,000 worth of amphetamine at his home has been jailed for a year.
David Andrew Roberts, of Isgraig, Tremadog, was given the 12-month sentence at Caernarfon Crown Court, on Tuesday, after pleading guilty to a single charge of being in possession of a class B drug with intent to supply.
The court heard that police had been called out to the Tremadog address to deal with an “on-going domestic incident” involving Roberts and his girlfriend Emma Jones on Tuesday, 9 June, last year.
On entering the property, it became apparent to officers that the couple were arguing about drugs and the 28-year-old was searched, leading to the discovery of “a small quantity of white powder.”
It was amphetamine with a purity of three per cent.
A further search of the house saw police uncover a number of bags of the drug with purity levels of between two and four per cent.
Cuttings agents, scales and other drugs paraphernalia were found and the street value of the haul was estimated at between £1,257 and £1,477.
A phone seized at the address showed Facebook “chatter” that demonstrated Roberts’ involvement in the sale of drugs.
Prosecutor James Coutts said Roberts played a “significant role” in the supply of drugs and had a long history of criminal activity, including the possession of narcotics.
Defence barrister Ffion Tomos told the court her client had been “a user of both amphetamine and cannabis for around three years.”
She said: “He got himself into debt to pay for the drugs so decided to turn to supplying others to pay off the mounting debts that he had.”
Miss Tomos said Roberts had “learning difficulties” but was keen to return to work.
Sentencing the drug dealer to 12 months in prison, His Honour judge Philip Harris-Jenkins told Roberts: “It was very stupid of you to become involved in the supply of drugs.”
Noting the 28-year-old’s 27 previous convictions for 44 offences, the judge said: “You have led a reckless lifestyle for a number of years.”
He added: “I accept that you have a history of drug misuse and it may very well be the case that you turned to dealing drugs to satisfy your own habit.
“You may have placed other people in a similar predicament.”
Roberts appeared in court via video-link from Liverpool’s Altcourse prison as he was already serving a sentence for breaching a suspended sentence order for harassment.
