Firefighters were called out following reports of a fire in the countryside around Llanaber, near Barmouth, this morning.

It is believed that the landowner has been undertaking controlled burning.

Fire crews from Barmouth, Dolgellau and Harlech attended. Four beaters were used to extinguish the fire which affected five acres of gorse and bracken.

More controlled burning is also being undertaken in the area and fire chiefs have been made aware of this.

A spokesperson said: "We ask anyone undertaking controlled burning or burning of garden waste to call us to inform us.

"North Wales Fire and Rescue Service is appealing to anyone conducting a controlled burn or burning any garden waste to call them on 01931 522006 #callbeforeyouburn."
