A hailstorm caused rush-hour traffic chaos in north Ceredigion yesterday evening.

Police reported four separate incidents on roads into and out of Aberystwyth after the hailstorm hit at around 5pm on Tuesday.

Hail turned to snow on the northern end of the A44 at Llangurig, where two incidents where reported by officers.

One car left the road and ended up on its roof on the sharp bend between Goginan and Capel Bangor at just after 6pm.

The incident left the road closed for around 20 minutes while the vehicle was recovered.

Both lanes of the road were fully reopened by police at just before 8pm.

At the same time, officers attended another collision on the B4572 between Bryncarnedd Caravan Park and Clarach road near to the crematorium.

One lane of the road was blocked, but the road was reopened by 6.45pm.

Ceredigion Road Policing Unit on Twitter said that there had been “four separate RTCs due to hail and ice on roads”.

Motorists were advised to avoid affected areas and drive with care.
