TYWYN’S High Street was ravaged by fire last night.

A blaze erupted in an outhouse behind J B Owens Hardware store last night in the early evening, totally destroyed the outhouse before spreading to other properties near by.

The blaze also caused substantial damage to the nearby pet shop and the neighbouring church although the damage was mainly external.

Three fire crews from Tywyn, Aberdyfi and Bangor rushed to the scene at 7pm and quickly closed off the High Street to deal with the inferno.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “We were called at 6.44pm to a building fire at Pretoria Buildings on Tywyn high Street.

“We used two thermal cameras, two hose reel jets, two sets of breathing apparatus and a ceiling hook to extinguish the fire which was contained within two hours.

“A fire investigation will be held to establish the cause of ignition.”

Nobody is believed to have been harmed by the fire.
