An 80-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of the body of an elderly woman in a house on Friday.

Officers say the man has been released on bail pending further police enquiries and that they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death in Pennant, near Llanon.

Dyfed-Powys Police is investigating an incident at a residential property in the Pennant area, where the body of an elderly female was found on Friday, 10 May,” said a spokesperson.

“An 80-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death, and has been released on bail pending further police enquiries.

“People living in the area will be aware of an increased police presence.

“We would like to reassure the community that the police are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the death.”

Local county councillor Dafydd Edwards said: “My first reaction is one of concern for the family, but without knowing the facts it’s very difficult to comment further.

“The family in question have lived in the area for a long time and are extremely well respected in the village.”
