FIRE chiefs say one person is still unaccounted for following a serious blaze overnight at an Aberystwyth seafront hotel.
Three children and nine adults were rescued early this morning by firefighters after a fire broke out at the Ty Belgrave House on Marine Terrace
Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews responded to reports of a fire at the hotel at 2.21am.
Fire crews said the blaze was “well-developed” by the time firefighters arrived on scene.
Five of the evacuees were taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution. At present one person remains unaccounted for.
A Mid and West Wales Fire Service spokesperson said: “The fire has spread to adjoining properties and the fire service are currently working hard to prevent further fire damage.
“Residents from adjoining properties have been evacuated to alternative accommodation.”
Overnight and on Wednesday morning 12 fire appliances were in attendance tackling the blaze, including three aerial appliances, a high-volume pumping unit and an unmanned aerial vehicle.
The fire service said the cause of the fire is unknown, “however a joint investigation with Dyfed-Powys Police will take place in due course.”
Dyfed-Powys Police said Marine Terrace was likely to remain closed for much of the day.
Welsh Water warned customers in the aftermath of the fire on Wednesday morning that water supplies could be impacted.
The company said customers “may experience discolouration to water supply” due to the fire service using hydrants to fight the fire.
“We have a team on site flushing and we anticipate that the the water supply should by clear by later today.”
