CALLS have been made for the North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner to resign after accusations he broke a manifesto pledge by announcing the closure of the custody suite in Dolgellau station.

In the run-up to his election last year, Plaid Cymru PCC Arfon Jones said that protecting Dolgellau Police Station’s status as a custody station would be one of his “top priorities”.

However, as reported in last week’s Cambrian News, the PCC has subsequently announced the closure of the cells, saying they are no longer deemed suitable.

It was also revealed that it costs more for a night’s stay than the five-star Savoy in London.

Independent Dolgellau town councillor John Raghoobar was furious.

He said: “He should do the decent thing and resign, misleading the electorate is bang out of order.”

Dolgellau’s Plaid Cymru mayor Dyfrig Siencyn said: “A meeting is to be arranged with the police commissioner and I will certainly remind him of the comments made during his election campaign.”
