THE residents of Dwyfor and Meirionnydd are being urged to stand up to racism and report hate crimes.
Plaid Cymru Home Affairs and Justice spokesperson Liz Saville Roberts MP and North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Arfon Jones are urging people across north Wales to report those they suspect of inciting hate crimes to the police and stand up to the ‘scourge of post-Brexit racism’.
Following an Urgent Statement in the House of Commons on hate crimes, Mrs Saville Roberts said: “I have been out with North Wales Police on weekend night shifts, and it was made evident to me that people from ethnic minorities are often reluctant to report hate crime for fear of retaliation.
“Since the EU referendum, there has been an increase in incidents of racial abuse in Wales and across the UK as a whole.
“I welcome the government’s announcement of a Hate Crime Action Plan, and particularly steps to make it easier for both victims and members of the public to report incidents. I would urge that resources are available to the police to deal with these offences sufficiently."
