A Dolgellau vicar has spoken of his shock after three stained glass windows were smashed with rocks, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
Rev Tim Webb of St Mary’s Church said this week that the community was shocked and saddened by the damage caused to the church’s beautiful windows, but had a message of redemption for the culprit.
The three windows, some dating back to the mid-19th century, were damaged in two separate occasions, the first being overnight on Thursday, 14 February, when stones were thrown from the outside, damaging a depiction of Jesus walking on water with Peter and a colourful window.
The second incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when an image of the three wise men was severely damaged by more rocks.
Rev Webb said: “I think this incident has shocked a lot of people as this sort of thing hasn’t happened for many years in the town.
“It is going to cost thousands to fix these windows as they are so specialist.”
