SIX babies under the age of one were allegedly sexually abused in the Dyfed-Powys police force area over a 12-month period, shock figures have revealed.
Figures, obtained by NSPCC Wales under the Freedom of Information Act, show that between April 2014 and March 2015, nearly one child sex offence every day was recorded across Dyfed-Powys.
The force recorded 328 such crimes in 2014/15, a 9.7 per cent increase on 2013/14.
Of the offences, 34 were recorded against children younger than school age, with six babies younger than one-year-old becoming victims.
Dyfed-Powys figures also reveal that 33 of the 328 sexual offences recorded against children were ‘computer related’ and/or ‘cyber/digital related’.
An NSPCC spokesperson said: “The figures may only reveal a small part of the whole picture, as many children are afraid to speak about their experiences.
“A recent NSPCC report also revealed some young victims say they are not believed when they report sex crimes to police.
“Across England and Wales the number of recorded child sexual offences soared by a third compared to last year, with more than 41,000 sex crimes inflicted upon young people."
