A CAPEL Bangor man has been given a suspended prison sentence after he threatened the manager of an Aberystwyth restaurant and bar with a wine bottle and threw pint glasses at other staff members.
Nathan Crane, of Glyn Orig, reacted angrily when he was told by staff at Baravin that he would not be served any more alcohol and threw two glasses, one damaging a fridge door and the ice from another glass hitting a member of the bar staff. He then raised a wine bottle over his head and threatened to hit the manager with it.
Crane pleaded guilty to assaulting Amy Waters and two charges of assaulting other staff members by threats.
Prosecutor Steve Davies said police were called to Baravin at around 6.30pm on Friday, 3 April where they were told that Crane had acted aggressively after he was told he would not be served more alcohol.
Staff said that Crane’s behaviour had grown increasingly rowdy and rude, and he asked the manager to go outside for a fight.
He then threw two glasses, with ice from one of the glasses hitting Ms Waters who suffered reddening to her leg, and another glass denting a fridge door. When the manager tried to usher Crane, 31, out, Crane grabbed an empty bottle of wine and raised it above his head as if to hit the manager. He was eventually bundled outside, but kicked out at the door when it was closed.
Staff told police that the incident had been frightening and had “escalated quickly”.
Defence solicitor Alan Lewis said Crane had anger management issues for which he was seeking help and became violent “at the flick of a switch”. He added: “He’s thoroughly ashamed of his actions. He wishes he could turn back the clock.”
Magistrates imposed an 18-week prison sentence for the assault on Ms Waters, with separate 12-week sentences for the two other charges. However, the concurrent sentences were suspended for two years.
Crane will also have to complete 35 days of rehabilitation and complete 200 hours of unpaid work. Magistrates also ordered him to pay compensation of £100 to each of the three staff members involved, compensation to the restaurant of £541 and costs of £165.
