EQUIPMENT worth almost £2,000 has been stolen from a greenkeeper’s shed at Machynlleth Golf Club.

The crooks made off with a red Honda TRX 250cc quad bike, valued at around £1,500, and an industrial strimmer, which was bought two years ago for £400, and harness.

Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, club secretary Phil Harris said the culprits had cut through a wire fence and a padlock to gain access to the shed.

“Whoever did it clearly knew what they were doing,” said Mr Harris.

“The shed was secured with a padlock, so we weren’t negligent.

“They drove up the service road to the golf course and cut through a wire fence and broke in.

“The quad bike was bought eight or nine years ago to enable the greenkeeper to do maintenance work around the course.

“They didn’t take the grass cutter because it was ancient.

“The quad bike allowed the greenkeeper to transport grass cutting mowers around the course – it is a labour-saving device. Having to drive the lawnmower around the course has made the job much harder.”

A police spokesperson said: “There was a burglary at Machynlleth Golf Club during the night of Monday, 11 September, in which several items of green-keeping equipment were stolen. If you have any information, please phone 101 and speak with Machynlleth police officers.”
