A WELL-KNOWN Aberystwyth businessman has said he feels “a bit embarrassed” after he was lifted over the roof of a pub in town following a fall in his home last week.

John Morris, owner of the Aber Fishing Tackle Shop on Terrace Road, needed to be evacuated after he fell in his home above the shop on Thursday, and two ambulances, two fire crews and three police vehicles attended to assist.

Unable to evacuate Mr Morris because of the narrow stairwell and fearful of exacerbating a suspected broken hip, fire crews used a telescopic ladder and aerial platform to lift Mr Morris from a first-floor flat roof at the back of his property, over the Vale of Rheidol pub roof and into a waiting ambulance.

Speaking exclusively to the Cambrian News, Mr Morris said he fell in his home and had to shout for help from one of his tenants, who called an ambulance.

“I am feeling a bit better now,” said Mr Morris, who spent the weekend being treated at Bronglais Hospital. I fell and they thought I had broken my hip but I had in fact just twisted my hip.

“I feel a bit embarrassed to be honest; I didn’t expect all the fire engines, ambulances and police cars, I didn’t expect all the fuss.”
