TWO Porthmadog men have admitted to burgling a popular railway station and making off with a till drawer and some bottles of alcohol.

Ashley Levy Jones, of Glaslyn Street, and Toby Humphries, of Pensyflog, appeared before Caernarfon Crown Court on Tuesday to plead guilty to the burglary which took place at Blaenau Ffestiniog’s Tan-y-Bwlch station between Thursday, 12 November and Sunday, 15 November, last year.

Jones, 25, also admitted to burgling a house in Llanfrothen on 14 November, stealing a Samsung tablet and some car keys, but Humphries, 22, denied being involved in that break-in and may face trial on the matter.

Both men pleaded not guilty to two separate counts of aggravated vehicle taking, but entered guilty pleas to the lesser alternative charges of allowing themselves to be carried in a vehicle that they knew to be stolen.

Prosecutors must now decide whether or not to put the men on trial for the more serious vehicle theft charges.

They relate to the thefts of a Ford Transit van between 12 November and 15 November and an Isuzu pick-up truck on 14 November.

Both vehicles were damaged, prosecutors say.

The Crown Prosecution Service must now decide how it intends to proceed in response to the not guilty pleas and matters were adjourned until Monday, 1 February when Jones and Humphries will again appear at Caernarfon.

They will be sentenced for the other matters when all other proceedings have been concluded.

The men, who appeared before the court via video-link, were remanded in custody until that date.
