Two teenagers have been rescued after getting into difficulty in the sea off the coast of Abersoch.

Abersoch RNLI was called out to help the teenagers who had fallen out of the dinghy.

The volunteer crew members were paged by the coastguard at 3.25pm Friday, 7 August, when the teenagers, who had gone out in a Laser Pico dinghy, got into difficulty in the water off The Warren beach.

The lifeboat was launched at 3.38pm in a slight sea state with good visibility and located the casualty vessel within two minutes.

The two teenage casualties, who were both in the water having not been able to right the boat to get back in, were taken onboard the lifeboat where they were assessed by the crew and found to be fit and well. Both were wearing life jackets.

After making the dingy secure the lifeboat returned the casualties to their parents at Abersoch main beach.

The lifeboat then returned to the casualty vessel and two crew members pulled the dinghy ashore in shallow water at The Warren beach where it was later collected by the owners. It was found that the bung was missing allowing the boat to take on water and lose stability.

The lifeboat left the casualties at 4pm and returned to the station where the lifeboat was washed down, refuelled and left ready for service by the waiting volunteer shore crew.

A spokesperson for Abersoch RNLI said: “Before heading out onto the water we would always recommend that you make a thorough check of your vessel every time and always ensure that you have a means of calling for help on your person that you can easily reach in an emergency.”
