LLANDDEWI Brefi has unveiled a new defibrillator after fund-raising efforts by residents and organisations in the village.

The defibrillator, which has been sited at the Foelallt Arms, was something which the community had been keen to have, local councillor Rhodri Evans said.

He said: “There had been an interest within the Llanddewi Brefi community to purchase a defibrillator for some time.

“The WI and the Llanddewi Brefi Young Farmers Club raised money last December by carol singing. It was decided that the money raised would go towards buying a defibrillator.

“The community council decided to move this venture forward, and with the help and knowledge of Dr Siôn James, were able to obtain grant funding from the British Heart Foundation.

“There was an open night at the village hall to raise awareness and launch the new defibrillator.

“It was an excellent night with over 100 people in attendance, as well as representatives from the British Heart Foundation.

“We had an instructive talk and demonstration by a paramedic. He taught us how to administer CPR and how to use the defibrillator.

“There were also two presentations of donations that evening in memory of the late Shirley Davies, Foelallt Arms, and Sally Rees, Awelon.

“Other organisations and individuals have also donated towards the defibrillator and its upkeep.”
