DYFED-Powys Police are warning residents of Ceredigion to be vigilant following reports of a number of men going door-to-door selling knives.

It comes after a number of residents in Carmarthen claimed they were approached by the men early this month.

Officers are now seeking to establish whether similar reports have been received in the neighbouring county.

A spokesman said: “On Tuesday evening, 1 December, reports were received by police in Carmarthen from concerned residents about a number of males who were going door to door selling knives.

“We are aware that similar reports have been made on local social media stating that the males in question were trying to steal dogs.

“We wish to confirm that we received no reports regarding these males attempting to steal dogs.

“At this stage, the reports we received seem to indicate that these males were travelling salesmen attempting to sell kitchenware.

“The vehicle in question was not seen by police; however, the reports to us seem to suggest that the vehicle was using Irish plates and the males had Irish accents.

“I am very grateful that people took the time to phone these suspicious incidents in to us.

“As always I encourage people to be vigilant and if they see anything suspicious to report it by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
