The building of the new multi-million-pound RNLI station in Pwllheli, which will house the new Shannon-class lifeboat in 2020, has started.

Over the last week, Wynne Construction, the official building contractor awarded the contract of building the new station, has started the work which will boast new and improved facilities for the volunteer crew members.

The boathouse will also include a souvenir outlet and a public engagement area to see and learn more about the new Shannon-class lifeboat.

Wynne Construction contract manager Steve Davies said: “We’re privileged to have been awarded the contract for this prestigious new resource for Pwllheli. We’re looking forward to working with the RNLI team again and delivering another successful boathouse project.”

The new boathouse will be located next to Plas Heli, on the opposite side to the river to the present boathouse, which has served Pwllheli lifeboats for over 120 years.

Along with the Shannon-class lifeboat, the D-class Robert J Wright will also be housed at the new station.

The architect for the new boathouse is Clive Moore, who is also the coxswain at Pwllheli RNLI.
