It is a very sad scene, watching the destruction of the beautiful beech hedge leading into Penrhyncoch village, with the loss of habitat for nesting birds and wildlife being destroyed.
We now have an eyesore exposed to everyone passing, such as old plastic greenhouses , and plastic sheets covered by old tyres. At least while the hedge was there we were unaware of the unsightly area hidden behind it.
How is the expense justified to build a (completely unnecessary, in my opinion) cycle path, while further up on the top end of Penrhyncoch village there is not even a kerb or gutters? Rain water flows down there like a stream. Apparently there will be three crossing places when riding your bike on this path. Does this really make it safer, on a busy road such as this? Have the health and safety implications of these road crossings been considered?
Also, surely the huge amount of money spent on this cycle path would have been better spent on the hill road past Comins coch, Rhiwshonsar, where only recently, a councillor died in a road accident, while riding his bike. I see quite a few cyclists on that road, while in Penrhyncoch I rarely see a huge number of cyclists.
Let’s hope that when it’s completed the cyclists do use it and do not ride two astride.
If there is a cycle path and a cyclist is not using it, they should pay a fine.
