ABERYSTWYTH actor Taron Egerton is up against Star Wars star John Boyega at next month’s Bafta awards having been shortlisted for the Rising Star Award.

The other nominated actors are Room actress Brie Larson, Fifty Shades Of Grey actress Dakota Johnson and Bel Powley who starred in The Diary of a Teenage Call Girl.

Taron,26, who starred with Colin Firth in Kingsman: The Secret Service, said: “I am delighted to be nominated for the EE Rising Star Award. It is such an honour to be recognised in this way and I am proud and excited to be following in the footsteps of some incredibly talented previous nominees.”

Taron, who went to Penglais School, will begin filming next year for the second Kingsman film and opposite Ansel Elgort in a film version of Billionaires Boys Club.

He is also believed to be one of the actors now being considered for the role of Star Wars character Han Solo, and has also made the Forbes ’30 under 30 in 2016’ list, it was revealed this week.
