Carnival

ABERAERON Carnival takes place on Bank Holiday Monday.Carnival day gives the Aberaeron Town Improvements Committee an opportunity to raise funds to re-invest into projects which help promote and enhance Aberaeron.Every year two distinctive colours are chosen as carnival colours which this year are turquoise and red. Both businesses and parade participants are encouraged to use this colour scheme.As usual, the parade commences from Quay Parade at 1.45pm. For safety reasons there will be no parking on Quay Parade and Cadwgan Place from 8am.

BYDD yr oedfa y Sul nesaf, 28 Awst, am 10yb gyda’r Parch Carys Ann Lewis yn pregethu.WI THE president, Eleanor Evans, welcomed everyone to the July meeting. The minutes of the June meeting were read and agreed, and the business and matters arising were gone through. Eleanor Evans, Carol Grinzspan and Sharon Taylor took part in the Ceredigion Federation Quiz but were not placed this year. Eleanor highlighted items of interest in the newsletter including nominations for the board of trustees. Correspondence this month included a poster from the Friends of Aberaeron Memorial Hall inviting members to an afternoon tea. Members were reminded about the carnival where they will be selling bathroom items and paperback books.The entertainment for the evening was a talk by Daryl Shute, whose mother was a valued member of Aberaeron WI. Daryl works for the Magic Animation Company which produced The Gruffalo and Stick Man. Jacqui Thomas gave the vote of thanks. The competition of my favourite teddy bear, was won by Eleanor Evans, and Anne Evans won the raffle. Tea hostesses were Linda Bad-ham, Val Edwards and Anne Jackson.Because no meeting is held in August, Karen Wright and Denise Smith arranged a treasure hunt for Wednesday, 3 August. They spent several hours wandering around Aberaeron and produced a number of questions and clues that led members through the town, ending up at The Feathers for a meal.Linda Badham and Jacqui Swetman won the treasure hunt quiz. Those members unable to participate in the walk joined the treasure hunters at The Feathers, and Karen and Denise had created another quiz for everyone to complete whilst having their meal. This was won by Val Edwards and Sharon Taylor.

Football club

ON SATURDAY, 27 August, the first team are home to Llandrindod Wells with kick-off at 2.30pm. Gwasg Aeron printers will sponsor. Recent results include a 2-1 loss against Mach-ynlleth and a 2-0 win against Montgomery.
